We talked about people who inspired us, about the future of Cork, about what advice we would give our younger selves. But it tends to set a certain expectation of what you are to do, a certain notion of performance, and it sometimes catapults us into a focus on an end result without realising what goes into the process and what it is really about.Īnd that's exactly what happened. Not that there is anything wrong with those - we love networking. We purposedly didn't call it a networking event. It gave everyone a chance to have deeper conversations, to explore topics further, to go below the surface, to foster meaningful connections with more people, some of whom you might otherwise never have had a chance to properly meet or talk to. But last week's event provided something more. The circles, as I always say, always open. The chats are always mighty at a Network Ireland Cork event. And all we did was provide a space, a framework and some topics for conversation. Sometimes all you have to do is provide an opportunity.Īs I watched the room in the Clayton Hotel Cork City last Wednesday night fill up, and listened to the conversations that were taking place across the tables, it was obvious that something special was taking place.
